Kitchen Manufacturers Tell Their Story

Multicam Systems are suppliers of their own range of CNC Routing machinery. Since their establishment over 19 years ago the company has grown to incorporate offices in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland with an extensive infrastructure and highly trained support staff. There are now over 2000 Multicam machines throughout Australia, New Zealand, China and South East Asia. When asked about the remarkable success of Multicam Mr Kevin Gordon, of Multicam head office, responded by saying "Multicam has become the market leader in this type of machinery for a number of reasons. Primarily these include supplying a world class, Australian made product, offering machinery that is attuned to market demands, supplying exceptional service and support and being at the forefront of the evolution of Flat Bed CNC Routing machinery." He continued by adding "We realise that the purchase of a Multicam CNC Routing machine represents a serious investment by our customers and it is our responsibility to ensure that they get a serious return on their investment." Multicam also supply the software programs KitchenCAD, Cabinet Builder and MultiCAD allowing them to offer fully integrated turn-key systems to their customers. "Multicam Systems has truly become the one stop shop for NBM solutions." concludes Mr Gordon.

Multicam SR3012v

Craig Hutchins, owner of Artform Kitchens, says that since taking delivery of their Multicam machine it has been running non-stop. "We were very surprised at how quickly we were in full production. The Multicam machine and the Cabinet Vision software linked together perfectly and have been producing quality jobs virtually from day one." Craig adds that "It seems that no sooner do I send a job to the Multicam machine for cutting I see the guys out the back assembling the cabinets. I am constantly surprised by the quick production of finished parts." As well as having a Multicam machine with vacuum hold down and rotary tool changer Artform Kitchens decided to also purchase the integrated material handling system from Multicam. "The addition of the material handling system to our machine was a great decision." says Craig. " We load a pallet of board on to the material lifter and from there it is fed on to the machine bed with the motorised roller. This eliminates lifting of heavy sheets, prevents damage to the boards and generally makes operating the machine easy and effortless."

 Company Name:
 Crafty Kabinets

 NBM Software:
 KitchenCAD

 Machine Type:
 Multicam SR2418v

Earlier this year Crafty Kabinets took delivery of a Multicam CNC Routing machine with 8'x6' process area, vacuum hold down bed and travelling rotary tool changer. "The decision to purchase the Multicam machine was made after a lot of research." says Chris Kokkoris, owner of Crafty Kabinets. "The investment in Nested Based Manufacturing is a significant one and I wanted to be sure that we got the best return on our investment in terms of reliability, flexibility and ease-of-use." He continued by saying "The build quality of the Multicam is obvious. Its solid construction means that it will be able to withstand the day-to-day demands of production for a long time to come. We find it very simple and safe to operate and the inclusion of the KitchenCAD software supplied by Multicam meant that we got a complete NBM system for minimum cost."

Company Name:
Cummins Joinery

NBM Software:
Cabinet Vision

Machine Type:
Multicam SR2418v

Geoff Cummins, Managing Director of Cummins Joinery and General Manager, Steve Wicks openly state that purchasing the Multicam SR2418v CNC routing machine has led to a significant growth in business. "What we found was that we can turn around jobs much more quickly than we were able to in the past." says Geoff. "Because of this we have been able to expand the business into other areas, such as contract cutting. Prior to owning the Multicam this is something that we would never have been able to contemplate." Geoff adds "This of course means that the business is made more profitable as it becomes more diversified. We can now offer a wider range of services and increase our customer base." Steve admits that there was a certain scepticism concerning the move to Nested Based Manufacturing. "As a cabinet builder I had to be convinced that what I saw on the computer screen was going to be cut as I wanted. Once the first couple of jobs came off the machine I could quickly see how this was so much better than building cabinets the old way. The process of Kitchen building is so integrated and streamlined that the whole factory runs much more efficiently as a direct result."

 Company Name:
 Murphy & Langfield Joinery

 NBM Software:
 Cabinet Builder

 Machine Type:
 Multicam SR2418v

"Even though we have only had our Multicam machine and Cabinet Builder software for a little while we are already seeing significant increases in productivity and profitability." states Phil Murphy who, together with his wife Donna have been running Murphy and Langfield for the last 11 years. "We have all the machinery traditionally associated with kitchen manufacture, but this is our first CNC machine. We have been truly impressed by the advanced features of the Multicam machine and the level of automation that can be achieved. The Automatic Tool Changer and 8'x4' vacuum bed make even the most complex job easy to accomplish." Phil was asked about his decision to get in to NBM. "Initially we were nervous about getting in to NBM so we spent a lot of time researching machines and software. The obvious expertise of the guys at Multicam in Mt Waverley made us feel confident that the Multicam machine was the way to go." Phil continues by adding "I have to admit that we were bewildered by the range of software that there is available. Most of it appeared far too complicated and I could see that it was going be tough to get to a point where I felt I had mastered it. In the end I was sold on a program called Cabinet Builder. It integrates perfectly with the Multicam machine, is very simple to use and yet has all the features. The combination is perfect for us ." Phil attributes his increase in business to the installation of the Multicam machine. "The increased throughput generated by the machine has meant that we can actually create more kitchens with the same number of employees in the same time as we were previously able to."

Company Name:
Fine Detail Joinery

NBM Software:
KitchenCAD

Machine Type:
Multicam SR3618v

Fine Detail Joinery is a modest business run by Anthony Teuma. In August last year he purchased his first Multicam CNC Routing machine. When asked about the decision to move in to CNC machining Anthony explained "We don't have a large staff here so in order to remain competitive with the big guys we have to be efficient and flexible. We also need to be responsive to an ever demanding market. I started looking at CNC machinery as a way of increasing the productivity and profitability of the business without having to increase staff. In short I wanted to make better use of my existing resources and at the same time have the ability to ramp up production as required." Anthony adds "I contacted Multicam and looked at their range of CNC machines. In the end I decided on a 12'x6' machine because of the added flexibility the large process are offers. I also knew that a vacuum hold down bed and automatic tool changer were essential in order to get the best possible production cycles. Multicam even supplied us with software that allows us to create Kitchen and carcass components, nest the parts on a sheet of material and send them to the machine for cutting quickly and efficiently. Getting all this from the one supplier is an added bonus and, because service and support are not an issue, I can concentrate my efforts on growing my business."
